About

VoterConnect.ie makes the work of the Oireachtas easier to follow. Everything said in the Dáil, the Seanad and their committees is already published — but it is published as a transcript, and a transcript is a hard thing to keep up with. This site takes that record and adds the parts that make it readable: a short summary of what each debate was actually about, the subjects it touched, and a way to search across all of it.

What's here

Proceedings are every sitting, most recent first, each debate carrying a summary above the full text of what was said. Divisions sit with the debate they were taken in, so you can see how each member voted and not only what the result was.

Bills are the legislation before the Houses, each with a plain-English summary of what it would do and where it has got to. Topics group debates and bills by subject, so an issue can be followed across the two.

Members and parties cover who sits in the Dáil and the Seanad today, with everything each member has said and the way they have voted. The register goes back well beyond the current term: a member whose term has ended keeps a page, and a speech names the party its speaker sat for at the time rather than the one they sit for now.

Taking part

All of that is readable without signing in. An account — your e-mail address and a link we send you, with no password to choose or forget — adds three things:

  • Like or dislike a bill, a division, or something a member said.
  • Follow a bill, a member or a topic, and get an e-mail when it changes — as it happens, once a day, or never. It is your choice on your account page, and every notification carries a link to stop them.
  • Comment on a bill, a division or a speech. Every comment is read before it appears, and is published under a nickname we assign you rather than your name — our comment policy says how that works.

What pays for it

Readers, mostly. The site runs on a small monthly and yearly subscription — if you find it useful, you can become a supporter and help keep it going. Supporters can also switch off the site's social features — likes, dislikes and comments — if they find them noisy.

Where the material comes from

The debate text, the speakers and speaking order, division results and bill details are all published as open data by the Houses of the Oireachtas and reproduced here as they come. The summaries, the topics and the rest of the site are ours. This is not the official record, and we are not affiliated with the Oireachtas or with any party — copyright sets out who owns what.

Getting in touch

Corrections, questions, and suggestions are all welcome — there is a contact form, and we read everything that comes through it.
