No. 18 of 1944Emergency Powers (Continuance) Bill, 1944
Public bill · Government · Introduced
The Emergency Powers (Continuance) Bill, 1944 would keep the Emergency Powers Act 1939 in force until 2 September 1945, unless the Oireachtas decided to extend it further. It would also allow the Government to end the Act earlier by setting an earlier expiry date. The purpose was to retain special wartime powers for public safety and the protection of the State. It would repeal the 1943 law that had previously continued those powers.
