Imposition of Duties (Confirmation of Order) Bill, 1950

Public bill · Government · Introduced

The measure would formally approve a government order made in August 1949 that increased import charges on wallpaper and other paper suitable for decorating walls or ceilings. The minimum charge rose to 3¾ pence per linear yard for most imports and 2¾ pence for imports from the United Kingdom and Canada. The charges would be 20% or 10% of the paper’s value respectively, where that produced a higher amount, alongside a separate 5% tax on wallpaper. It matters because it confirms higher costs for imported decorating paper and gives continuing legal effect to the emergency increase.
