Appropriation Bill, 1956

The Appropriation Bill, 1956 authorised the Government to spend public money on services for the year ending 31 March 1957. It approved up to £114.8 million in total, including £109.3 million for the new financial year and £5.5 million in supplementary funding for the previous year, covering areas such as education, social welfare, health, agriculture, policing, defence, public works and transport. It also allowed the Minister for Finance to borrow up to £73.1 million to support this spending. The schedules on pages 4–9 set out the individual allocations and the expected income used to help fund them.
