Electricity (Temporary Provisions) Bill, 1961
Public bill · Government · Introduced
The proposal responds to a dispute involving electricians that threatened to interrupt electricity supplies and cause wider shortages and job losses. It would allow the Government to set up a tribunal whose wage decision would be binding, and an inquiry into how the Electricity Supply Board handles staff pay and employment disputes (pages 2–3). For up to six months, the Minister for Industry and Commerce could control the supply and prices of scarce goods, while breaches could lead to fines or imprisonment; the measures could end earlier if the Government decided (pages 2–4).
