Sugar Bill, 1990
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Sugar Bill, 1990 would reorganise Siúicre Éireann by creating a new Irish public limited holding company and transferring the State’s existing shares into it. It would allow the relevant Ministers to hold, manage and, where appropriate, sell shares, while giving the Minister for Agriculture and Food a special share and related powers. Transfers of the company’s businesses, assets, liabilities and shares to the new holding company would be exempt from stamp duty. The Bill would also repeal the older laws governing sugar manufacturing, with the Government expecting little significant cost to the Exchequer.
