Sexual Offences (Jurisdiction) Bill 1995
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would allow Ireland to prosecute citizens and people ordinarily resident in Ireland for sexual offences against children committed abroad, where the conduct was also a crime in the country where it happened and would be a crime in Ireland. It would also cover attempts, helping or planning such offences, arranging or providing transport, and publishing material that encourages them. Gardaí would receive search powers, companies and responsible managers could be prosecuted, and a person could not be tried in Ireland again for conduct for which they had already been convicted or acquitted abroad.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to extend the criminal law of the State to try sexual offences against children committed elsewhere, but which if committed in this State would constitute a criminal offence, by citizens of the State or by persons ordinarily resident within the State
