Fisheries (Amendment) Bill, 1995
Public bill · Government · Presented
The proposal would let the Minister for the Marine appoint a temporary Commission to take over some or all of a fisheries board’s work. The Minister could first appoint people to examine a board’s management, organisation and performance, inspect its records, and report back; the board would generally be given notice and a chance to respond. Boards and their members would have to provide requested information and documents, with members potentially removed for refusing to cooperate. Orders establishing a Commission would be laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas and could be cancelled by either House; the memorandum says there would be no direct staffing or financial costs.
