Oireachtas (Miscellaneous Provisions) and Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices (Amendment) Bill, 1996
Public bill · Government · Presented
The measure updates payments and support available to members of the Oireachtas. It allows members living outside the Dublin area to claim an overnight accommodation allowance when attending parliamentary meetings, with limits for informal meetings in Leinster House, and permits funding for secretarial services and constituency telephone calls. It also allows the State to cover or reimburse certain injury compensation claims involving secretarial assistants employed by politicians or qualifying political parties. In addition, it changes annual, tax-free allowances for parties and independent TDs to support parliamentary work and research, while preventing their use for election expenses; it also confirms certain travel claims made by members in 1994.
Formal long title
