Youth Work Bill 1997
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Youth Work Bill 1997 would create a national framework for voluntary youth work, with education boards responsible for planning, funding, coordinating and reviewing services, especially for disadvantaged 10- to 21-year-olds. It would establish advisory and local youth councils, allow grants to organisations, and give the Education Minister powers to monitor services and intervene where boards fail to provide them effectively.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to extend the functions of education boards in relation to youth work, to make provision for the making of grants in respect of youth work, to establish Voluntary Youth Councils, to provide for the development and co-ordination of organisations and persons engaged in youth work and in the provision of youth work programmes and youth work services, and for that purpose to establish a National Youth Work Advisory Committee and to provide for related matters.
