The Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1997 would set both the presidential election and the referendum on the 17th Amendment for Friday, 31 October 1997, with voting from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. It would make Friday voting the normal rule for future elections, including on islands, restrict relevant ministers’ campaign roles, and fix a technical problem affecting postal and special voters.
