Employment Rights Protection Bill, 1997

Would give employees practical remedies when employers break rules on collective redundancies or business transfers, including reinstatement, re-engagement or compensation of up to two years’ pay. Disputes could go to a rights commissioner, with appeals to the Employment Appeals Tribunal and High Court, while awards would be enforceable and penalties for breaches increased.
