Sexual Offenders Registration Bill, 1998
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require people convicted of specified sexual offences, including relevant offences committed abroad, to give the Gardaí their name, address, fingerprints and photograph, and report changes or extended stays elsewhere. Courts would decide how long the requirement lasts based mainly on the risk of reoffending; breaches could lead to fines or imprisonment, while access to the register would generally be restricted to the Gardaí.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to require the notification of information to the Garda Síochána by persons who have committed certain sexual offences against children and to make similar provision with respect to the commission of certain sexual acts involving children outside the Republic of Ireland and for connected purposes
