Referendum Bill 1998

Would allow the Minister to establish an independent Referendum Commission for each referendum. The Commission would provide balanced information about the proposal, publish arguments for and against it, encourage informed debate, and allow eligible organisations to take part in monitoring voting and counting.

Bill entitled an Act to enable the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to establish in relation to a referendum a commission to be known as a Referendum Commission having as its principal function the provision of information to the electorate in respect of the referendum and to provide for matters connected with the matters aforesaid
