Food Safety Authority of Ireland Bill 1998
Public bill · Government · Presented
The measure establishes the Food Safety Authority of Ireland as an independent body responsible for promoting and enforcing high food-safety and hygiene standards, from production to sale. It gives inspectors powers to examine premises, take samples, require records, order improvements, close dangerous premises and withdraw unsafe food, while requiring food businesses to bear primary responsibility for safety. It also creates scientific and public consultation structures, transfers staff and assets from the previous authority, and involves the new Authority in certain radiological-safety matters.
