Parental Leave Bill 1998

The Parental Leave Bill 1998 would give eligible working parents up to 14 weeks’ unpaid leave per child to care for children, with limited paid emergency leave for urgent family illness or injury. It would protect employees’ jobs and workplace rights, set rules for requesting and postponing leave, and provide complaints, compensation and enforcement procedures.

Bill entitled an Act to implement Council Directive 96/34/EC of 3 June 1996 on the framework agreement on parental leave concluded by UNICE, CEEP and the ETUC, for that purpose to amend certain enactments and to provide for related matters
