Offences against the State (Amendment) Bill 1998
Public bill · Government · Presented
Tightens laws against paramilitary and other serious offences by creating new offences, allowing courts to draw limited conclusions from silence, extending detention and rearrest powers, and requiring information about planned crimes to be reported. It also makes these offences subject to stricter bail rules, possible trial in the Special Criminal Court and property forfeiture, with most measures due for review and renewal.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Offences against the State Acts, 1939 to 1985, and certain other enactments relating to criminal law and to provide for related matters
