Family Law Bill, 1998

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Would allow civil marriages to take place in approved venues such as hotels and public buildings, rather than only in registrars’ offices. Local authorities would maintain a register, set conditions and renew or cancel approval; couples would need the venue’s consent and pay the relevant fees, while falsely claiming approval would be an offence.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the law in relation to celebration of marriage, and to provide for related matters
