The Bill would strengthen workplace safety by requiring safety representatives in certain workplaces, allowing safety codes to be used in civil as well as criminal cases, and requiring safety plans for potentially dangerous activities seeking planning permission. It would also increase penalties for safety offences, including fines, imprisonment of up to 12 months on summary conviction and up to 10 years on indictment.
