British-Irish Agreement Bill 1999

The measure gives effect to parts of the 1998 Belfast Agreement by allowing Irish ministers to participate in the North/South Ministerial Council and British-Irish Council, and by establishing six bodies working across the island on waterways, food safety, trade and business, EU programmes, languages, and fisheries, aquaculture and lighthouses. It transfers relevant powers, staff and assets to these bodies, provides funding and oversight arrangements, and places them under reporting, audit, Ombudsman and data-protection rules.

Bill entitled an Act to make provision in relation to the North/South Ministerial Council, the implementation bodies and the British-Irish Council, established under and in furtherance of the Agreement between the Government of Ireland and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland done at Belfast on the 10th day of April, 1998, to make provision for the purposes of the international agreement establishing the implementation bodies and to provide for related matters
