Immigration Bill 1999

The Immigration Bill 1999 would give the Minister wider powers to deport or exclude non-nationals, including arresting and detaining people subject to deportation orders, while setting procedures for notice and representations. It would also overhaul asylum processing by creating an independent Refugee Appeals Tribunal and Advisory Board, introduce fingerprinting for asylum applicants, and increase penalties for obstruction and related offences.
