Customs and Excise (Mutual Assistance) Bill 2000

Gives legal effect in Ireland to EU arrangements allowing customs authorities to share information and cooperate across borders to prevent and investigate smuggling, customs fraud, tax evasion and money laundering. It establishes a shared Customs Information System, names the Revenue Commissioners as the responsible authority, and requires safeguards for personal data, including oversight by the Data Protection Commissioner and rights to correct or remove inaccurate information.
