Registration of Births Bill 2000

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The bill would allow parents who marry after their child’s birth to change the child’s recorded surname when re-registering the birth, where both parents agree. It aims to prevent difficulties and embarrassment where parents use the father’s surname but the child’s existing birth certificate records the mother’s surname.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the law in relation to the registration and re-registration of births and to provide for related matters
