The Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2000 would update election administration by improving voter registration, allowing candidate photographs and party emblems on ballot papers, opening polling stations from 7 a.m., and providing accessibility measures such as large-print ballot papers and companion voting. It would also create a legal framework for electronic voting and computerised counting, while tightening political-donation rules through donation limits, restrictions on some overseas and foreign-business donations, and dedicated bank accounts. Political parties would receive substantially more public funding, with updated spending rules and oversight requirements.
