Road Traffic Bill 2001

Public bill · Government · Presented

Introduces a penalty-points system for minor driving offences: points remain for three years, with 12 points bringing an automatic six-month driving ban. It also allows breath tests after accidents or suspected road offences, recognises certain driving bans imposed elsewhere in the EU, strengthens fines and camera evidence, and gives local authorities greater control over taxi stands, bus stops and environmentally focused traffic measures.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Road Traffic Acts, 1961 to 1995
