Heritage Fund Bill 2001
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Heritage Fund Bill 2001 would establish a fund of up to £10 million to help Ireland’s main museums, galleries, libraries and archives buy rare, nationally important items—such as manuscripts, books and artworks—costing more than £250,000 that they could otherwise not afford. It would provide staged State funding, allow private donations, and require the Council of National Cultural Institutions to recommend purchases to the Minister, with annual reporting and financial oversight.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to make available further financial resources for the acquisition of heritage objects and, for that purpose, to provide for the establishment of a fund to be known as the Heritage Fund and to provide for the establishment of a body to be known as the Council of National Cultural Institutions or, in the Irish language, An Chomhairle um Fhorais Chultúir Náisiúnta.
