Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Bill 2002

Public bill · Government · Presented

Would make it easier for doctors to gain permanent registration in Ireland by allowing their professional experience to be considered and reducing the required period of temporary registration from four years to two. It would allow EU citizens who qualified at EU colleges to undertake internships in Ireland, and permit internships and temporary work in a wider range of healthcare settings. Temporary registration could also cover short-term specialist work and remain valid while a permanent-registration application or appeal is being decided, helping protect public healthcare staffing.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to make further provision in relation to the General Register of Medical Practitioners and for that purpose to amend the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978
