Opticians (Amendment) Bill 2002

Allows ready-made reading glasses, non-prescription sunglasses and goggles to be sold without the usual controls, while keeping prescription goggles regulated. It renames ophthalmic opticians as optometrists, updates registration rules and penalties, and removes the ban on optometrists treating patients or prescribing medicines, while requiring them to refer suspected medical conditions to a doctor.
