Victims Rights Bill 2002
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Bill would give victims of crime and, in some cases, their immediate families clearer legal rights to respectful treatment, support, information and updates about investigations and court cases. It would expand victims’ ability to describe the physical, emotional and financial effects of crime before sentencing, and give victims of violence or sexual offences notice of bail, release, escape, parole reviews, hospital discharge and possible deportation, with opportunities to make submissions. Victims could complain to the Ombudsman if these rights were not respected.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to make provision for victims rights and to make provision for the treatment of victims of criminal offences
