Electricity Regulation (Amendment) Bill 2002
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would bring electricians, electrical contractors and employers of electricians under a national safety and technical standards system overseen by the Commission for Electricity Regulation. They would generally have to register each year with one approved supervisory body, which could inspect work, enforce safety codes and impose penalties for unauthorised electrical work; electricity connections could also be refused without proof that installations were completed by registered, compliant professionals.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Electricity Regulation Act 1999, to provide for the regulation of the electrical contracting sector in the State by the Commission for Electricity Regulation and to provide for related matters
