Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill 2003

The Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill 2003 would make technical changes to how information requests are handled, including clearer deadlines, request withdrawals, electronic publication and fees. It would also give public bodies stronger grounds to refuse requests, particularly for Government deliberations, security, law enforcement, confidential or commercially sensitive information, personal data, tribunals and parliamentary briefings. The measures would improve administration but reduce access to some records and extend certain protections, including Government confidentiality from five to ten years.
