Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill 2003

The proposal would strengthen the Broadcasting Commission’s responsibility for protecting children’s health when regulating advertising. It would allow restrictions on advertising toys and foods high in sugar, fat or salt, as well as on advertising aimed at children below specified ages. It would also give RTÉ a specific duty to take positive steps through its programmes and advertising to protect public health, particularly children’s health.
