Registration of Lobbyists Bill 2003
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would create a public register of paid lobbyists and require them to disclose who they represent, what decisions they are seeking to influence, which public bodies they are contacting and relevant payments or funding. It would cover lobbying about laws, government policies, regulations, grants and contracts, with records published online and overseen by the Standards in Public Office Commission. Politicians, public officials and special advisers would face restrictions on lobbying, including a two-year cooling-off period in certain cases; false statements could lead to fines or imprisonment.
