Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2004

The Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2004 would provide a legal basis for using voting machines and computerised vote counting in European, local and presidential elections and referendums, replacing paper ballots for most voters while retaining arrangements for postal and special voters. It would also establish an independent Commission on Electronic Voting to assess whether the system was accurate and kept votes secret, introduce offences for damaging or interfering with voting equipment, and set procedures for operating machines, counting votes and conducting recounts.
