Adoptive Leave Bill 2004
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Adoptive Leave Bill 2004 would extend paid adoptive leave by two weeks, to 16 weeks, and preserve an existing option of up to eight weeks’ unpaid additional leave. It would give employees paid time off for required pre-adoption classes and meetings, allow leave to be postponed if the child is hospitalised, and permit unpaid leave to end if the employee becomes ill. Adoption-related leave would count towards rights such as annual leave and seniority, while employees would be protected from dismissal and entitled to return to the same or an equivalent job.
