Immigration Bill 2004
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Immigration Bill 2004 would put Ireland’s main immigration rules directly into legislation, replacing the uncertain legal basis left after court rulings challenged the older system. It would regulate non-nationals’ entry, visas, permissions and conditions of stay, registration with the Gardaí, identity documents, and removal from the State, while exempting certain diplomats, EU-related cases and refugees. It would also create offences for breaking these rules, allow searches and arrests in specified circumstances, and permit fees for immigration services.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to make provision, in the interests of the common good, for the control of entry into the State, the duration and conditions of stay in the State and obligations while in the State of non-nationals and to provide for related matters
