National Monuments (Amendment) Bill 2004
Public bill · Government · Presented
The National Monuments (Amendment) Bill 2004 would clarify which Ministers are responsible for national monuments and give the Environment Minister power to approve works that might damage, alter or destroy a monument, while considering the wider public interest as well as archaeology. It would set special arrangements for approved road projects, including the South Eastern Route of the M50, requiring archaeological protection and procedures for newly discovered monuments, while removing some separate consent and licence requirements. It would also increase penalties for unauthorised interference and transfer related responsibilities from the Commissioners of Public Works.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the National Monuments Acts 1930 to 1994 and to provide for related matters.
