The Finance Bill 2004 changes a wide range of tax rules, including increasing tax credits for employees, raising income-tax exemptions for people aged 65 and over, and adjusting reliefs for farmers, businesses, research and development, films, renewable energy and housing. It also confirms increases in tobacco, fuel and some VAT rates, updates stamp duty and inheritance-tax rules, and introduces stronger requirements for reporting savings interest and powers for Revenue to obtain information. Overall, it aims to implement Budget measures, support selected economic activities and improve tax administration and enforcement.
