Child Trafficking and Pornography (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2004
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposed law would strengthen child protection by widening the definition of “sexual exploitation” and creating a specific offence for an adult who meets, or travels intending to meet, a child for sexual exploitation following online grooming. This would close a gap in the 1998 law, which focused on trafficking and could require proof that a child had been coerced, even where the child agreed to meet the adult. The new offence could carry up to 14 years’ imprisonment.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to strenghten the protection of children and for that purpose to broaden the definition of sexual exploitation, and to prevent the exploitation of children through internet grooming and for that purpose to amend the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.
