Sustainable Communities Bill 2004

The Sustainable Communities Bill 2004 would require a national strategy to help local councils and communities make their areas more sustainable, with clear targets and measures of progress. It would support environmental protection, local jobs and services, social inclusion and public involvement in decisions, while giving local councils and residents a stronger role in putting the strategy into practice.

Bill entitled an Act to require the drawing up and implementation of a stratergy to promote sustainability among local communities; to make provision for the inclusion of targets and indicators in the stratergy; to make provision for councils to implement the stratergy in their area; to make provision in respect of the powers of electors in relation to the implementation of the stratergy; and for connected purposes
