Health and Social Care Professionals Bill 2004

The Health and Social Care Professionals Bill 2004 would create a national council and separate registration boards for 12 professions, including physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, medical scientists and speech and language therapists. Only people on the relevant public register could use protected professional titles, while approved education and training would be monitored. The system would allow the public to make complaints about misconduct, poor performance or health problems affecting practice, with possible sanctions including conditions, suspension or removal from the register, helping protect patients and service users.
