Civil Liability and Courts Bill 2004
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Civil Liability and Courts Bill 2004 would shorten the time for starting a personal-injury claim to one year, require early notice to the alleged wrongdoer, and introduce stricter rules on evidence, detailed claims, mediation and settlement offers. False or misleading evidence could lead to criminal penalties and dismissal of a claimant’s case, while undeclared income could be ignored when damages are assessed. It would also allow anonymous reporting of family-law cases, transfer dormant court funds towards court buildings while protecting claimants’ money, and widen the Circuit Court’s role in property disputes.
