The Defence (Amendment) Bill 2005 would allow members of Ireland’s Permanent Defence Force to take part in military training exercises outside the State with the armed forces of other EU countries. Its aim was to enable Ireland to contribute fully to EU “battle groups”, rapid-response units intended to deploy to international trouble spots, support peacekeeping and help prevent genocide and other war crimes.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to authorise contingents of the permanent defence force to participate in training outside the state and for that purpose to amend the Defence (Amendment)(No.2) Act 1960
