Irish Medicines Board(Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2005

The measure would give the Irish Medicines Board responsibility for licensing controlled drugs and overseeing medicines, medical devices, cosmetics, veterinary medicines and drug-making ingredients, while updating Irish rules to match European requirements. It would strengthen inspections, sampling, prosecutions and penalties, allow unsafe activities to be stopped, and clarify who may administer medicines. It would also update clinical-trial oversight and tighten controls on pharmacies and other organisations handling controlled drugs, helping protect patients and public health.

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 (as amended by the Misuse ofDrugs Act 1984); to amend the Irish Medicines Board Act 1995; to amendthe Control of Clinical Trials Act 1987; and to consequentially amendregulations that are either made under the Irish Medicines Board Act1995 or referred to in section 34(4) of that Act.
