Official Languages (Amendment) Bill 2005

The Bill would create a clearer process for changing the names of towns and other places, including public consultation and approval by a majority of qualified local electors. It would also allow the Minister to set, amend or cancel Irish-language versions of place names, while protecting existing names in Gaeltacht areas.
