No. 4 of 2005

Totalisator (Amendment) Bill 2005

Public bill · Private Member · Presented

The Bill would stop the Tote from accepting bets from anyone under 18, bringing Tote betting into line with the rules for bookmakers and lottery tickets. Breaching the age limit would be an offence punishable by a fine of up to €3,000, although staff could defend themselves by showing they reasonably believed the person was over 18. It would also increase penalties for operating an unlicensed Tote and for other offences under the 1929 law.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to increase the age limit below which persons may not place bets with the Totalisator and also to increase the penalties for offences and for that purpose to amend the Totalisator Act 1929
