Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2005
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2005 would redraw Dáil constituency boundaries using the 2002 Census and the Constituency Commission’s recommendations. It would keep the number of TDs at 166 but increase the number of constituencies from 42 to 43, including five new constituencies in the North Connacht–North Leinster area; the changes would take effect after the next general election dissolution. It would also clarify that free postage, voluntary services, normal media coverage and election broadcasts do not count as election expenses.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the number of Members of Dáil Éireann and for the revision of Constituencies, to amend the law relating to the election of such Members and to amend the Electoral Act 1997
