Electoral (Preparation of Register of Electors) (Temporary Provisions) Bill 2006

Would allow local authorities to use limited information from the 2006 census—names, addresses, dates of birth and nationalities—to help prepare a more accurate 2007 electoral register. The information could be used only for electoral registration, alongside local inquiries, and the measure would last for 12 months; misuse could result in fines.

Bill entitled an Act to provide access by registration authorities, for the purposes of their duties in relation to the preparation of the register of electors to come into force in 2007, to certain records of the Central Statistics Office, and to provide for connected matters.
