Health (Hospitals Inspectorate) Bill 2006

Would establish an independent hospitals inspectorate, separate from the Health Service Executive, to inspect every hospital annually and assess patient care, services, staffing, records and legal compliance. It could investigate particular hospitals or patients, demand information and records, publish reports to the Oireachtas, and recommend improvements or closures; obstructing inspectors or withholding information would be an offence.
