The proposal would add constitutional protection for Ireland’s cultural heritage, making the State responsible for preserving newly discovered archaeological, artistic and other heritage objects for the public. It would also make the State and public authorities custodians of the environment, requiring them, where practicable, to protect nature, pursue sustainable development and consider the interests of future generations.
